History
The BKF 2000 is a contemporary reinterpretation of the iconic BKF Chair, originally designed in 1938 by Argentine architects Antonio Bonet, Juan Kurchan, and Jorge Ferrari Hardoy, members of the Austral Group. The original chair, a symbol of Río de la Plata Modernism, combined a lightweight steel frame with a suspended leather sling, becoming one of Argentina's most internationally recognized design classics.
Designed by architects Juan Blas Doberti and Carlos María Rimoldi, the BKF 2000 pays tribute to the original concept while projecting it into the 21st century. Its geometry takes on a more sculptural expression, preserving the essence of the tubular structure while exploring new proportions, materials, and a bold architectural presence.
Today, the BKF 2000 is part of the urban furniture of the City of Buenos Aires. Constructed in reinforced concrete and weighing approximately 160 kg (353 lb), it transforms a modern design icon into a monumental piece that seamlessly integrates art, architecture, and public space.
