History:
In Ancient Greece, three main architectural styles emerged, distinguished by the design of their columns, capitals, and entablatures: the Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian orders.
The Doric order is the oldest and most austere. It is characterized by sturdy, fluted columns without bases and simple, cushion-like capitals. Its proportions convey strength, solidity, and balance.
The Ionic order is more slender and elegant. Its columns rest on bases, and the capitals are distinguished by their spiral volutes. This order introduces a greater sense of refinement and decorative detail.
The Corinthian order is the most ornate of the three. Its capital is richly decorated with acanthus leaves and intricate carvings, representing sophistication and ornamental richness.
Together, these three classical orders became the foundation of Western architectural language, influencing Roman architecture and continuing to shape buildings and design traditions for centuries.
